A judge from the Audiencia Nacional in Spain has ruled that telecommunications service providers in Spain must block access to Telegram starting from Monday. Several Spanish media companies, such as Mediaset, Atresmedia, and Movistar, have filed a lawsuit against Telegram, alleging that it has been hosting copyrighted content without permission. The judge had requested information from the platform, but Telegram did not respond before the deadline. Therefore, the court has decided to proactively block the application until the investigation is concluded. In Spain, Telegram is the third most popular instant messaging application. According to data from the Spanish competition watchdog CNMC, 8.5 million residents, which accounts for 18% of the total Spanish population, use the app.
