The U.S. Department of Justice announced on March 21st that it is filing a comprehensive antitrust lawsuit against Apple Inc., accusing the company of engaging in illegal monopolistic practices and stifling competition in the smartphone industry. Apple has responded by stating that the lawsuit is “wrong on the facts and the law” and that it will actively defend itself. U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland has stated that Apple holds a monopoly in the smartphone market and maintains its market dominance through exclusionary conduct.
