该协议是 Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol(XMPP)的修改版本。
The ability to chat with WhatsApp users using third-party applications will soon be realized. Meta is opening up this capability to third-party apps. The company states that WhatsApp requires other chat applications to use WhatsApp’s own protocol for message transmission. This protocol is a modified version of the Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP). Message encryption must be done through the Signal protocol used by WhatsApp or a similar alternative. The connection to third-party servers is done via HTTP, with data organized in XML files.
However, Meta acknowledges that when using third-party applications, it cannot guarantee the continuity of end-to-end encryption since it has no control over the application at the other end of the line. Therefore, there may be a risk of eavesdropping on the third-party server, according to the company.
Developers can apply to Meta for this capability. Meta’s opening of WhatsApp is in response to the requirements of the EU Digital Markets Act (DMA), which mandates that WhatsApp allows users to communicate with other applications through its platform. While WhatsApp should be able to exchange messages, photos, videos, and voice memos with other applications, group chats and video calling functionality have not yet been implemented.
