Spotify will offer the ability to subscribe to its services through its website in the iOS version. The new version, which includes this feature, has been submitted to the App Store, but it has not yet been approved by Apple. Spotify’s move is a response to the €1.8 billion fine imposed by the European Union on Apple earlier this week. After the update, users will see the subscription services offered by Spotify, their prices, and links to Spotify’s website, where they can directly subscribe. In the current older version, Spotify does not provide a subscription option because the company refuses to pay the up to 30% commission to Apple. Previously, EU regulators found that Apple illegally prevented developers from providing users with information about alternative and cheaper music subscription services outside the App Store and fined the company €1.8 billion. Apple has stated that it will appeal the decision and claims that the EU regulators did not provide credible evidence.
