Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo from TF-Securities has revealed that Amazon plans to release its first Kindle e-readers with color screens next year. These models will feature 6-inch and 10-inch displays using E Ink’s ACeP (Advanced Color ePaper) technology. This technology differs from the current E Ink Caleido as it utilizes four color particles without color filters, enabling higher contrast. So far, color screens using E Ink have had low contrast.
This move may result in costlier Kindle models, as these color screens are 40-60% more expensive than regular monochrome screens, which will increase the cost of e-readers. Apart from Amazon, other companies such as Kobo and reMarkable are also reportedly planning to adopt ACeP screens in their new models. These companies may begin launching the corresponding products as early as this year.
