Google has acknowledged reaching a licensing agreement with Reddit to utilize content from the community platform for AI training. A few days ago, news about a “deal between Reddit and a major player” quickly circulated. Google revealed through a blog post that their “collaboration with Reddit is deepening,” as Reddit will utilize Google’s Vertex AI cloud platform to enhance its search capabilities. Simultaneously, Google will gain access to Reddit’s data API, enabling the company to receive “structured and unique content” from the platform in real-time for display, training, and utilization. Google did not disclose the financial details of the transaction. However, sources previously mentioned that the deal amounted to as much as $60 million. In April of the previous year, Reddit announced that all parties must pay for API usage.
