Microsoft will be introducing the sudo command to Windows 11. This is a well-known feature in macOS and Linux. Sudo stands for “substitute user, do” and allows for executing commands with elevated privileges, such as installing applications, uninstalling components, changing settings, and performing other operations. Clues about this command have appeared in the Windows Server 2025 preview build. The recent discovery is that the option to configure sudo will be available in the Windows 11 settings page (see the image above). To enable sudo, users will need to activate the developer mode, after which the system will allow them to open sudo and configure its behavior.
