Snap, the parent company of the social networking app Snapchat, has announced that it will be laying off 10% of its workforce, amounting to 529 employees. Snap stated that this move is “to position our business for long-term growth, execute on our top priorities, and ensure that we have adequate resources to invest incrementally.” The company plans to incur expenses ranging from $55 million to $75 million for severance payments to the affected employees. In August 2022, Snap previously laid off 20% of its workforce and shut down the development of original content for Snapchat. It also discontinued production of the Pixy drone, which was launched just a few months prior.
