Amazon has launched a shopping assistant called Rufus, which is powered by generative AI. Rufus can answer shopping-related questions, provide product recommendations, and offer comparisons, aiming to enhance the online shopping experience for consumers. Amazon states that Rufus has been trained on its product catalog, customer reviews, community Q&A forums, and other online resources to gather relevant information. It is now capable of engaging in conversations with customers to provide assistance. Customers using the Amazon mobile application will be able to interact with Rufus by asking questions in the search bar, where it will appear in a chat interface at the bottom of the screen. The application is currently in the testing phase, with some US customers having installed the latest Amazon shopping app on Android and iOS. The company plans to gradually expand the testing scope over the next few weeks.
