The Wi-Fi Alliance has officially begun certifying devices that support Wi-Fi 7. This suggests that the Wi-Fi 7 standard has been finalized. The certification aims to provide assurance to consumers and businesses that routers, smartphones, laptops, and other products supporting Wi-Fi 7 are compatible with the new standard. The first batch of devices with Wi-Fi 7 certification support has appeared in the Wi-Fi Alliance’s product finder. Several months ago, manufacturers such as Netgear and TP-Link introduced products with Wi-Fi 7 support, but some of these products may have been based on early draft versions of the new Wi-Fi standard. These initial devices may be updated to the final Wi-Fi 7 standard and certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance.
Wi-Fi 7 is the latest generation of Wi-Fi technology, offering higher speeds and double the bandwidth compared to Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E. The standard provides 320MHz channel widths, support for the 6GHz frequency band, and Multi-Link Operation (MLO). MLO allows devices to simultaneously connect to the 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz bands for higher throughput and lower latency.
